STOROPACK IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BIG BLUE OCEAN CLEANUP

On Wednesday 29th September 2021, ten volunteers from Storopack UK, and the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup were joined by the Acopia Group who teamed up for the West Wittering, Sussex beach clean-up operation. The teams gathered at the West Wittering Beach location spent the day combing the beach for debris, focusing on clearing microplastic and small plastic rubbish, harmful to ocean and aquatic life. The volunteers jointly managed to collect 35 kilos of plastic litter including micro plastics.

Storopack is a sponsor of the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup program, one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations highlighting the plight of the world’s oceans. Key objectives are to keep oceans clean, protect vulnerable marine animals, provide free educational resources, and carry out important ocean pollution research to drive positive change. It also supports the development of innovative technologies.

Richard Pulfrey, Managing Director of Storopack UK, explains, “We have been supporting the international Big Blue Ocean Cleanup since 2018 and since our last beach clean in 2018, the UK has lived through Brexit and the recent global pandemic. Consequently, we are delighted to be able to work in collaboration on a beach clean project again. We’ve committed to a long-term partnership as an exclusive sponsor of the Coastal cleaning Program. Continuing our work with the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup and supporting this very worthwhile cause is very important to us as this corresponds with our own objectives to promote the circular economy, encourage use of recycled plastic products and responsible recycling. Furthermore in 2020 we produced more than 30 percent of our in-house manufactured products from recycled content materials. The business strategy is to increase this to more than 50 percent by 2025 through product innovation.”

“On the day of the clean we were surprised at the wide range of litter spread out along the beach and proud to have been associated with cleaning up the environment and preventing small plastic items entering the ocean.”

At the conclusion of the beach clean-up, volunteers were treated to a lunch at the West Wittering Estate PLC beach café to mull over the success of the day and discover more about the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup operation.

All waste collected on the day was delivered to the local recycling services as pre-arranged by the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup.

Storopack employees from teams across Europe also aim to carry out further beach cleans in their respective countries as part of the sponsorship in 2021.

The Big Blue Ocean Cleanup’s coastal cleaning program can be found all over the world.
